About

# We’re building a home for the thoughts _that slip away._

SpeakOS is spoken memory for iPhone and Mac. We want remembering to be as easy as saying it, and we’re building it together with the people who use it.

A letter from the founder

Most days my head feels like thirty-seven open tabs.

My best thoughts arrive at the wrong time. On a walk. In the shower. Halfway through a meeting. Just before sleep.

I tell myself I’ll remember. I almost never do.

A promise to a friend. The name of a restaurant. An idea that felt important for a whole afternoon, gone by the evening.

For years I tried notes apps. They became the place thoughts went to die: typed in a hurry, never filed, never found again.

So I started building SpeakOS.

The idea is simple. When a thought appears, say it out loud. SpeakOS keeps your exact words, organizes them quietly, and gives them back when you ask in your own vague way. “What was that card idea?”

I don’t want to build another app that asks you to work harder. I want to build something that lets you carry less.

A few things I won’t compromise on. Your words stay yours. Recordings are deleted once they’re written down. And SpeakOS never pretends to remember something you didn’t say.

I’ve shipped products before, and I’ve learned the best ones are built with the people who use them. SpeakOS is early. It will become what it should be because of what you tell me.

If your head is always full, I’d love your help.

What we believe

## Three things _we won’t trade._

- ### Carry less

Saving a thought should take a second and ask nothing of you: no title, no folder, no mode to choose.

- ### Your words stay yours

We organize what you say but never rewrite it, and we delete recordings once they’re written down.

- ### Useful, not clever

Answers come from what you actually said, with the source beside them. If it isn’t there, SpeakOS says so.

How we build

## With the people _who use it._

1. 1 Build it for ourselves first. Every feature starts as something we need on an ordinary day: a thought on a walk, a promise in a meeting, a worry at midnight.
2. 2 Give it to people whose heads are always full. Early members use it every day and tell us what slipped away, what SpeakOS found, and what it missed.
3. 3 Keep what helps. Cut what doesn’t. What earns its place ships to everyone. What isn’t ready is called a concept, like the memory card, until it is.

Join early

## Help us build it. _Carry less with us._

We’re letting people in a few at a time. Join early, use it every day, and tell us what it should become.

- ### Tell us what you forget

The ideas, promises and details that slip away for you are the best thing we can learn from.

    [hello@speakos.app](mailto:hello@speakos.app?subject=What%20I%20forget)
- ### Shape what it becomes

Early members try new things first, and what they tell us decides what we build next.

    [Get early access](#join)
- ### Tell us what’s broken

Something went wrong, or we got something wrong? A short note helps us fix it.

How we write the blog

## Sources we can open, and corrections in the open.

the SpeakOS team writes it. we build the app, so we write about what we run into: dictation settings, speech recognition quirks, and the small habits that make speaking instead of typing work.

## how we choose sources

- primary sources first: Apple, Google and Microsoft documentation for how their features work, and peer-reviewed papers for numbers.
- every statistic names its source, year and what was measured. a lab study on phones is called a phone study, not a mac one.
- if we can't open the page and see the number, we don't use it.
- we say when we sell something. SpeakOS is our product, and each post says so where it recommends it.

## what we don't claim

we don't publish health, productivity or time-saving claims without a source we can read. when the evidence is thin, we say it's thin.

## corrections

found a mistake or a link that moved? tell us through the [bug report form](https://speakos.app/bugs) and we'll fix it and note the change in the post's updated date.
